Sophie's summer plans

Sophie will be working for Lawyers Without Borders in London! She'll be living in an apartment building with several other Yale students.

LWOB is an international non-profit organization that works on projects related to issues such as gender based and domestic violence, corruption, human trafficking, economic empowerment, electoral violence, civic and electoral rights, conflict mitigation, mediation, negotiation and consensus building, rights of the child, succession and inheritance rights, tax compliance and land title and conflicts.

Some of the areas where LWOB projects are ongoing or in development include the following regions: Albania, Ghana, Liberia, Tanzania, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Haiti and Colombia.

To address these issues, LWOB partners with law firms or individual lawyers who work probono on developing and disseminating trial advocacy training modules for judges and law enforcement officers, illustrated civic education materials, training manuals, educational games, assessment and evaluation reports, monitoring reports, case digests and analysis, bench books, law enforcement tool kits and trial observation reports. Materials are first created in English and subsequently translated into one or more local languages.
